This is basically a conversation I had with a friend edited down for more of a kind of review to preserve. Can't say I'll be doing this often or again, but just wanted to get out those first impressions I had before I watch the Sub.

And YES, there be SPOILERS. Do watch the movie before reading this.

So I just saw Darkside of Dimensions.

That had to be the most fucking ridiculous anime film I have ever seen.....in a good way. XD

To start off, I watched the English Dub. I know I know, but my idea going in was watch the dub first then appreciate the Sub after (Which thankfully the Blu Ray has). Generally I though it was a good follow up to the events of the series' ending with the ties like Shadi and the spirit of the ring, etc. With the Dub, it did feel like a step up to the series. It didnt go overboard with dub jokes and while yes, there was both music and remixs based from the original dub score, they do allow for silent moments where there is no music, something that really pissed me off in the 4Kids days. And much like how it was good seeing these characters again and seeing how their lives are going forward after school, the voice cast was a welcomed nostalga trip (Admit it, as much as you love the Sub, you much have some place in your heart for English Voices like Pharaoh and Seto. XD). There's zero mention of the Shadow Realm, no edits as far as I can see (The gun that guy had was not invisible thank god. XD) and Yugi only mentions Heart of the Cards just before he collapses. Again, the dub doesn't fully go joke crazy thank god, but I did enjoy what I saw despite dreading how bad it could have turned out.

It had be so long for me that I'd almost forgot what some characters sounded like, which I blame the Abridged Series for mostly. XD

For the ridiculousness, I said before Kaiba's space elevator was pushing it a little. My god, they had gone even further for Kaiba. XD Did he become President or something, because he had like SUPER control of the city! There are no mayors or leaders he has to answer to, even where he can just make an announcement on every screen in the city whenever he wants. XD Not even Disney or Trump have those kind of things. XD Not even just the space elevator that didn't bankrupt the company but now also the technology to go into the afterlife, something you could use to solve the greatest mysteries of the past, but nope, he's gotta use it to stalk the Pharaoh for all eternity till he wins a duel legit. XD

But the point where I just threw all the serious stuff out the door and enjoy it the sillyness was when Kaiba just stages a freakin' aircraft accident, scaring the shit out of the crowd thinking they're about to die, just to fucking show off his new tech. XD Not only is that just so out of bad taste, his English VA plays it perfectly when his giving his pitch for his new Tech. XD

Best. Sales Pitch. Ever. XD

And I think thats just how the English Dub worked so well. Every quote we like to shout out for the Dub, every move they announce we act out, its all greatly preserved and redone so perfectly. XD I pissed myself laughing after Yugi put the puzzle back together to show Kaiba that the Pharaoh was gone and they had to move on with their lives, this long speech and everything they had been through, then Kaiba's like "YOU LIE!" and I burst out laughing because this guy has some serious problem to the point I'm shouting at the TV wondering what the hell's wrong with him. XD Kaiba is the worst person you can try to prove wrong or convince him of anything. Yeah, he had the backstory to make you feel kind of sorry for him, but damnit Kaiba, Yugi has no reasons to lie and prevent you from dueling your rival. XD Then again, Pharaoh's "I AM JESUS" moment did kind of prove him right and now Pharaoh has to endure his stalker in the afterlife forever. XD

And yeah, I saw Pharaoh's "I AM JESUS!" moment coming a mile off but how else were they were going to end this film, especially after the Ring's Spirit just accepts a duel for zero reason just after taking over the world, and to be fair, it was awesome.

Oh, and there was a guy named Diva (Try not to laugh. XD) and his troubles, but you could almost do the movie without him or his struggles. In short, guy blinded by revenge, won't listen to anyone to change his mind, realizes who dead wrong he was right at the end, the end. Sound familiar? XD
Don't get me wrong, I love the original YGO and all but......I guess rewatching it or watching something like this over a decade after the original series ended makes you realize just how silly it got at times. Kind of like a Saved By The Bell or original Power Rangers effect.

Or just getting old maybe. XD

Yeah, at that part I was like, "Did Kaiba just kill that pilot? Oh no, it was all just a hologram." I really wish we could get a proper continuation of the series, instead of all the BS spinoff series they continue to churn out.
